Reader questions: Evening dim sum and North End tequila

We go to the vaunted mailbag this week to answer your happy-hour queries. Questions were edited for brevity or clarification.

Q: Dude, dim sum would rock for happy hour. Seriously, you’ve got to convince some bars to start that.

A: Dude, P.F. Chang’s has been all over it. Steamed pork and shrimp dumplings served at the bar from 3-6 p.m. weekdays at both locations in downtown Bellevue (525 Bellevue Square) and Seattle (Westlake Center, 400 Pine St.;www.pfchangs.com).

But I would still hit Harbor City Restaurant, 707 S. King St., in the Chinatown International District, where dim sum is served until 11 p.m. Some plump har gow (shrimp dumplings) and crispy fried daikon cake to wash down with a Heineken or Tsingtao, the beer staples of every Chinese restaurant.

Q: I’m looking for a place that can seat 12 for a get-together with my girlfriends, for wine and some appetizers in downtown or South Lake Union. Any suggestions?

A: I think South Lake Union is your better bet, especially since most restaurants and bars have large seating capacity to handle the Amazon workforce.

Logistically, Tutta Bella on Westlake, 2200 Westlake Ave. (tuttabella.com), makes the most sense. It has a spacious dining area and easy-to-share Neapolitan pizzas. And your guests won’t have to stress over parking: The restaurant validates for up to two hours in the 2200 parking garage, off Ninth Avenue and Westlake Avenue.

Additionally, Tom Douglas has three places that could work. Serious Pie, 401 Westlake Ave N. (seriouspiewestlake.com), has a no-reservation policy, but call ahead and often they can accommodate larger parties. Big groups love to book a table at the Brave Horse Tavern, but it gets pretty loud in there. And it’s more of a beer place. A better option is its quieter sibling downstairs, Cuoco, 310 Terry Ave. N. (cuoco-seattle.com), the Northern Italian restaurant with a good wine selection.

Q: I can’t find a bar with a decent tequila selection in the North End. All tips lead to casinos. Is there a Mexican restaurant or bar that has a decent selection?

A: Head to Edmonds. Hit Five Bistro, 650 Edmonds Way, which — despite being located on the outskirts of downtown, in an unassuming strip mall with a Shell gas station — boasts about 90 tequilas and some smoky mescals behind its bar (www.fiveedmonds.com).
