Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill arrested on allegations of domestic violence

By Danny O'Neil
Seattle Times staff reporter

The Seahawks had given no indication Leroy Hill was part of their plans.

After he was arrested Tuesday on allegations of domestic violence, it's a veritable certainty he won't be back.

Hill was arrested near his home in Issaquah, accused by his 26-year-old girlfriend of repeatedly assaulting her and keeping her from leaving. She was taken to a hospital, Hill was arrested and taken to Issaquah City Jail and then to King County Jail, where he remained Wednesday night. He is accused of third-degree assault-domestic violence and unlawful imprisonment by the Issaquah Police.

It's his fourth arrest in four years. Two of those were drug-related arrests in Georgia; this is the second time in three years Hill has been arrested in Issaquah on an accusation of domestic violence.

Hill, 30, played linebacker the past eight seasons for the Seahawks. A starter last season, he played on a one-year contract. He is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent. The Seahawks had no comment on his situation.

Hill faced a domestic-violence charge in 2010, arrested in April of that year after officers were called to his home. They observed injuries on his live-in girlfriend, which she stated were caused by Hill. Hill was charged with fourth-degree assault/domestic violence, but the victim stopped responding to the prosecutor's attempt to contact her in that case. The charge was dismissed without a conviction after Hill complied with the terms of court probation over 18 months, which included no further law violations and completion of a domestic-violence treatment program.

Officers were summoned to Hill's home on Tuesday afternoon about 4 p.m., according to a statement from the Issaquah Police. They were called by a woman who identified herself as Hill's girlfriend. She said she was assaulted by Hill and held against her will. She also stated Hill had taken her cellphone, according to police, and she left the home when he went to the bathroom.

The victim was taken to Swedish Hospital in Issaquah, treated and released, according to the police.

Officers staked out Hill's home for hours before arresting him on the 60 block of Cougar Ridge Drive Northwest.

Hill has not yet been charged.

Hill was drafted out of Clemson in the third round of the 2005 draft. He started 12 games for the Seahawks this season and has started 89 games in his career.

There was a question about whether Hill would be welcome back a year ago after he was arrested in Georgia and charged with drug possession. In that incident, police found what was alleged to be marijuana in an apartment belonging to Hill on Feb. 25. The charge was dismissed at the request of the prosecutor after Hill passed a drug test.
