Spark a flame this Valentine's Day with items to love

By Rebecca Teagarden
Pacific NW associate editor

'Tis the week of love, it is. But, why should not every week be a week of love?

Let's let Mr. Robert Frost take it from here with this: "Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired."

Desire away.

'Brella for two, please

The folks at Laura Ashley have thought of everything. No, really, everything. Here is a tool specifically for cuddling up in inclement weather: the Mitford Check Couples Umbrella. The cheerfully paid umbrella is 51 inches wide and offers a central handle for sharing (ergonomic and cushioned, too!). Manual opening and closing. Price is $60. Find it at www.lauraashleyusa.com or www.amazon.com.

Breakfast in bed, perhaps?

Make it sweet, make it hearts all around with the Chef's Choice M840 WafflePro Express Waffle Maker, Traditional Five of Hearts. Nonstick waffle maker bakes five heart-shaped waffles at a time. Literature says there's a "quad baking system" for custom texture and color. Maker can choose deep-bake mode or "crisp exterior/moist interior" setting. Unique floating top plate for uniform thickness; cord storage; recipes included. $69.99. Find around town and at www.macys.com, www.bedbathandbeyond.com and at www.amazon.com.

For the tiny Valentines among us, there's the Smart Planet WM-3 Circus Waffle Shape Maker. A lion, an elephant and a clown in this model. Not much to know: "Makes waffles in the shape of circus animals. Nonstick surface is easy to use, easy to clean. Recipe book included. Waffles cook in minutes." You know, the usual. $29.99. Find at www.smartplanet.com, www.sears.com, www.amazon.com.

Time for tasty treats

What Valentine's Day (or any holiday, for that matter) would be complete without a small pond of chocolate? Hmmm?

Velata chocolate fondue from Scentsy Family. Dippable dessert that is practically goofproof deliciousness and not a messy deal. Toss a bag of Velata Belgian chocolate in the microwave, pour into fondue warmer, find something fun to dip (peppermint sticks, apples, marshmallows, pretzels, etc.). Eat.

Silicone dish is heated by a 25-watt light bulb inside warmer. Keeps melted chocolate at perfect temperature (no stirring required). Dish goes from fridge to microwave to dishwasher. No messy fountain, scorched chocolate or open flame. Four types of chocolate to choose from. $40 for the warmer, bags of chocolate $7, forks are four for $5.

Goddess alert: Scentsy Family sells through sales consultants and in-home parties. But you can also buy it directly from the website: velata.com.

Make a big impression

Let us continue to eat our way right through this holiday, shall we?
