The Boeing Co. has made its "best-and-final" contract offer to its engineers and technicians, but their union says the offer will be rejected.
The aerospace company offered to extend the existing contract to current employees, but wants to end a pension plan for new hires. The Society of Engineering Employees in Aerospace wants the pension to be continued for future hires.
On Wednesday, SPEEA offered to extend the current contract for another four years so that engineers can fully focus on the problems that have grounded the 787 jetliner.
SPEEA spokesman Bill Dugovich says the next step is for union members to formally reject the contract offer and authorize the union's negotiating team to call a strike.
The union represents 23,000 members who are mostly in the Puget Sound region.
