Tacoma police say an officer shot and killed a 22-year-old woman who pointed a gun at the officer.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner's office identified the woman as Sophia Strickland, of Tacoma.
Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool says a mother called police Saturday night and told them her daughter had fired several rounds inside the house and she thought her daughter had killed herself.
The News Tribune reports (http://is.gd/UKyjZu) that officers found the woman alive. Police say she refused to talk to them and pointed a handgun at an officer as she walked toward the officer. The officer shot her.
The woman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave, while police investigate.
