Sidney Rice in walking boot, availability for Bills game in doubt

RENTON — The Seahawks picked up a pair of unexpected injury concerns heading into Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills.

Receiver Sidney Rice was in a walking boot Wednesday dealing with a bruised foot, apparently suffered in Sunday's home win against Arizona, and cornerback Walter Thurmond wasn't able to complete a full practice due to an unspecified hamstring injury.

Coach Pete Carroll said the team didn't know about Rice's injury until after the weekend and that the receiver's status is in doubt for Sunday.

"He's improved quite a bit since game day, in the last couple days, but he's got a pretty sore foot, so we don't know," Carroll said. "He's got the X-rays and MRIs and all of that, and the findings are nothing that would keep him from playing. He just has to get back; he feels very sore right now."

The injury to Thurmond, who started against the Cardinals in place of the suspended Brandon Browner, wasn't addressed during the coach's news conference before practice.

If Rice is unable to play Sunday, Carroll indicated Charly Martin could see an increased role and that there might be other shuffling within the receiving corps.

Rice leads the team with 45 receptions and 658 receiving yards. His seven touchdown catches are tied for the team lead with Golden Tate.

Carroll said that Rice — who hasn't missed a start despite knee, calf and head issues this season — didn't even know when the latest injury occurred.

"He's had a sore toe all season, and he originally thought that it was just that," the coach explained. "He kind of misinterpreted the signs, and then Monday morning he woke up with a pretty sore foot and couldn't move around very well. So we didn't even know it was coming."

In other injury news, veteran defensive back Marcus Trufant, who has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury, wasn't able to practice Wednesday.

Safety Kam Chancellor (groin), defensive end Red Bryant (foot) and running back Marshawn Lynch (back) were all listed on the injury report but are expected to be ready for Sunday.

First look at Wolf Grey uniforms

The Seahawks will debut their new Wolf Grey uniforms against the Bills, a game to be played at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. Seattle has featured redesigned Nike uniforms this season but is yet to feature the third look as opposed to blue or white.

The only other time the team wore an alternate jersey was Sept. 27, 2009 — a rave green-inspired ensemble against the Chicago Bears.

"It's our one chance that we can do it, so we picked this game out a long time ago," Carroll said of the Wolf Grey.

Notes

Leroy Hill returned to practice Wednesday after dealing with an ankle injury, but Carroll said the linebacker is in competition to get his starting spot back from Malcolm Smith, who has started the past two games. Another ongoing competition is at right guard between John Moffitt and rookie J.R. Sweezy.

• The Seahawks have exhausted their limit of padded practices as negotiated in the newest collective-bargaining agreement. Players won't be able to wear pads in practice for the rest of the season, a change Carroll said will require some transition.

• In honor of The 12th Man on 12/12/12, the team held fan promotions for 12 hours Wednesday on various social media platforms, including a Twitter Q&A with Carroll, a ticket giveaway on Foursquare, and a tour of the practice facility on Instagram.
