Seattle police are searching for the teen who shot a young man on a South Seattle street corner Friday afternoon.

Police were called to South Byron Street and McClintock Avenue South around 12:20 p.m. for a report of a shooting.

The victim, a man described as being in his late teens or early 20s, was shot in the chest near Franklin High School. The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening wounds, said Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore.

A hospital spokeswoman said the man was in critical condition in the intensive-care unit.

Neighbor Vic Tampico said he heard at least a half-dozen shots and looked out his second-floor window.

"They [the gunshots] were too fast for me to count," he said.

Tampico said he saw the victim on the ground.

"He looked like he was in a great deal of pain," Tampico said.

Immediately after the shooting, police described the shooting suspect as an Asian or Hispanic boy between 15 and 16 years of age, who was wearing a blue jacket and backpack.

Police spokesman Mark Jamieson said the shooter took off in a car after the shots were fired.

Franklin High School, which is about a block from the scene, and John Muir Elementary School were placed on lockdown.

Seattle Public Schools spokeswoman Teresa Wippel said school officials have not been able to make any connection between Franklin and the victim or any possible suspects.
