Thursday links --- Yet another ranking of coaches, and more

Bob Condotta

Another day, another ranking of coaches, this one again by The Sporting News, only this one ranking all 124 FBS coaches.

UW's Steve Sarkisian comes in pretty well, at No. 30 overall. That's fifth among Pac-12 coaches (no surprise since they'd already done a ranking of just Pac-12 coaches).

The Pac-12 coaches ranked ahead of Sarkisian are Oregon's Chip Kelly (No. 6 on the national list), WSU's Mike Leach (17), USC's Lane Kiffin (20) and Utah's Kyle Whittingham (21). Sarkisian comes in just ahead of Stanford's David Shaw (32). ('s Ted Miller breaks down the entire list of Pac-12 coaches here and has some of his own thoughts).

Sarkisian also is ranked ahead of some pretty big names nationally, such as Iowa's Kirk Ferentz (33), Auburn's Gene Chizek (36) and Nebraska's Bo Pelini (37), to name a few.

Given Sarkisian's still-brief overall head coaching resume, it seems hard to imagine he'd be ranked a whole lot higher on such a national list. To move up much more will require what UW fans hope now happens --- a similar move into the upper echelon of the Pac-12 standings.
