Tuesday links --- Athlon's has UW No. 25 in pre-season rankings

Bob Condotta

The ending of spring football largely means the beginning of the pre-season rankings phase of the college football season.

One of the first to get their rankings out is Athlon's, one of the venerable pre-season rankings. The magazine is starting a monthlong countdown of its Top 25, and begins today with its No. 25 pick --- the Washington Huskies.

Here's its rundown of the Huskies. With each team it also has a slideshow of that team's top 10 players for this season, and top 10 since 1967 (really? No Marques Tuiasosopo?)

Obviously, all these things are just for conversation and discussion, and I always hope fans appreciate them in that light. I often get comments that all such pre-season rankings "are meaningless.": Of course they are. But college football teams play 12-13 times a year or so, 3-4 hours or so each time. If we solely limited our talk of college football solely to that 50 hours or so of time, it'd be kind of boring. All of these kinds of rankings, whether you agree with them or not, help pass the time and drive the conversation in the off-season.

Okay, on to a few more links. ...

--- Times columnist Jerry Brewer says it's "absurd'' to say Chris Polk should have stayed in school for another year.

--- Bud Withers' review of Pac-12 spring camps today hits on Washington State.

--- ESPN's College Football Live has also unveiled its pre-season Top 25, which does not include UW.

--- The Oregonian's Oregon rundown leads off with some thoughts on Darron Thomas going undrafted.

--- The Pac-12 spring meetings are this week and looks at what might be on tap.

--- Some Oregon State news and notes.

--- ESPN's Pac-12 blog examines possible draftable players out of the conference for 2013.

--- Some links around the conference from Christian Caple.

-- Hat tip to the guys at the Review for this interesting story on former WSU running back Dwight Tardy reviving his baseball career at Mt. SAC, the same school where Nick Montana is now playing football.

--- Finally, I was a guest last night on Northwest Sports Tonight with Paul Silvi (he's the well-dressed one) talking about UW spring football and Chris Polk:
