We wrote earlier about online publication VentureBeat naming Windows Phone head Terry Myerson as one of its top 10 Mobile Movers for 2012.
Today, VentureBeat awarded Myerson the top dog prize, naming him its 2012 Top Mobile Mover.
Myerson, who led the engineering team for Windows Phone, only took over as head of the division in December. He faces the daunting task of raising consumer awareness of, and gaining market share for, a smartphone platform that currently holds less than 4 percent of the U.S. market.
VentureBeat acknowledges that Windows Phone is a long shot and "has far to go before it can even catch the flailing BlackBerry."
But it named Myerson its Top Mobile Mover, the VentureBeat article says, because Windows Phone, though early in its lifecycle, is "an attractive, responsive operating system that's getting a lot of notice. You can count on it to make big waves in the mobile market this year."
Myerson beat out the likes of Ehud Shabtai of Waze, who won the popular vote, Paul Jacobs of Qualcomm, and Mary McDowell of Nokia.
